講義概要
The three 留学英語 classes, which we'll call Study Abroad English classes, will help students build the English skills needed to communicate while traveling and living in English speaking countries.
留学英語Ⅰ～Ⅲの授業では、英語圏に旅行に行ったり、生活したりする際に必要な英語のコミュニケーション能力を身に付けることを目的としています。
The goal of this class is to help prepare students for conversations during their travel and study abroad. Our textbook covers a range of situations, including arriving in another country, making online reservations, taking a taxi, and renting a car. Our textbook provides English language support and practice opportunities for a variety of travel situations. (Also included is Japanese support for important vocabulary and sentences.) This class should provide you with the language and skills you need to communicate independently during your travel and study abroad experiences. This class will be taught in English.
この授業は、外国に旅行に行ったり、留学したりする際の会話の練習をすることを目的としています。教科書は、他国に着いて、オンラインで予約をしたり、タクシーに乗ったり、車を借りるといった一連の状況をふまえて作られています。旅行での様々な状況で英語をどのように使うかを理解し、使う練習をします。（重要な語彙や文については日本語のサポートもあります。）この授業では、外国旅行や留学中に意思疎通しようとする際に必要となる言語スキルについてもふれます。この授業はオール英語で行います

授業に関する予習・復習はもとより、普段の自己学習が検定試験合格の大きなカギとなる。英和辞典（電子辞書可）及びノートは、各自必携のこと。(※15週の予定は進捗状況に応じて随時変更する可能性がある。)

第2週Lesson 2Unit 2: May I See Your Passport? (p. 16). Fill out a landing card & answer questions at immigration. Talking about future plans & Making requests (Will be ~ing, Can you, Could you)
第3週Lesson 3Unit 3: Where to? (p. 24). Take a taxi, give directions, & chat with the driver en route. Using let & Talking about prices (US & Canadian currency)
第4週Lesson 4Unit 4: I Asked for a Double. (p. 32). Reserve a hotel room online & deal with problems at check in. Completing online reservation forms & Solving problems (I was told that, I asked for)
第5週Lesson 5Unit 5: What Would You Suggest? (p. 40). Talk about interests when asking for sightseeing advice. Expressing interests & Making suggestions (I’d like to, I'd suggest, You could)
第6週Lesson 6Review Units 1-5: Simulate a sightseeing trip to Los Angeles (p. 48). Small talk en route, Immigration, Taxi to hotel, Check in, Sightseeing around LA
第7週Lesson 7Presentations 1. Present your Los Angeles trip conversation with your partner (or group).
第8週Lesson 8Unit 6: Here Are Your Keys. (p. 50). Select & rent a car, filling out rental forms. Filling out a rental agreement & a vehicle ready report
第9週Lesson 9Unit 7: Turn Left at the Light. (p. 58). Meet & chat with a stranger when asking for directions. Imperative & Direction commands (Turn left, Go straight)
第10週Lesson 10Unit 8: How Much is This? (p. 66). Talk about items & negotiate prices when shopping. Complaints & Comparisons (It’s a little loose. Do you have a larger size?)

Lessons build on material that was covered in previous lessons, so attendance is important to learn the material covered in class. Our class time is also a good time to practice your English skills and build your vocabulary. When using English, don’t worry about making mistakes. Just do your best! このクラスは英語表現、語彙を学ぶよい機会です。英語を話す時はミステイクを気にする必要はありません。講義内容を理解するためには、毎回の出席が重要である。最善を尽くすことが大切です。
準備学習の内容
Assigned homework should be completed before class. To become skilled in English, it’s important to frequently review vocabulary and grammar. Studying English for ~15 minutes every day is better than studying English for 2 hours once a week. Also, build your reading and listening skills by using material that you can understand 80~90% of the time.
