講義概要

授業はすべて英語で行われる。 This class gives a survey of American civilization and culture. This class will be taught completely in English. Class topics will include the following: • U.S. natural features including climate, geography, and natural resources. Comparisons between the U.S. and Japan. • American first peoples, early immigrants, and current population mix • Early U.S. history and World War 1 • Key interactions between the United States and Japan both before and after World War 2. • Current American government, politics, society issues, and economy. • U.S. science, industry and inventions. • The U.S. artistic culture: including fine arts, music, theater, movies, craft, architecture, etc. • American foods, holidays, and sightseeing. Our textbook will be used to organize the topics for this class. Material from our textbook should be read before each class. Lecture information (PowerPoint files and notes) will be made available via the internet.

直接関係する科目はないが、視野を広げる意味でも他の文化関連の科目も積極的に履修することをお勧めする。

評価方法

学期末試験40％、課題レポート（2回程度）30％、受講状況30％（出席15％、ノートなど15％）により、総合評価する。
